Batter up! It’s time for fall baseball season and the games have gotten underway.  After having a few weeks of intense daily practice, both the JV and Varsity teams were ready to make their mark on the field.

On Saturday, September 26th, the JV Fall baseball season officially started as they took on the Cooper City Cowboys on our school’s home field.  It was a fierce double header as the JV Jags fought hard but faltered in the first game and had a crushing defeat losing 12-8.  However, the second game was a total turn-around as they clawed their way to a thrilling 6-5 victory.  Sophomore Chad Shim had a great double header on Saturday.  Shim stated, “My performance overall was outstanding. I felt that I hit the ball extremely well including the double I hit which accounted for 3 of the 8 runs in our defeat in the first game. The second game, the whole team contributed in every aspect and rallied together to allow for a solid win.”

On Thursday, October 1st, the Varsity team had their first game of the Fall Season against Nova University School at Bamford Park in Davie. Varsity did not fare as well as expected during this game.  The Jags suffered a crushing loss of 7-1.  The Jags pitching was right on point and the defense was fine.  The team had only 1 hit in the game by Senior Isaac Valancy.  Jags Varsity last year had 14 seniors on the team. This year, during the Fall Season, there are only 4 seniors.  Junior Antonio Peetoom said that he did well on Thursday’s game.  Peetoom stated, “I threw a no hitter during my two innings of work and my curveball was my best pitch.  As the team practices more, we will be fine and the team should not worry about the outcome of the game.”  Hopefully the team will rebound with power at the plate and come out swinging during their first home game on Wednesday, October 7th.

The fall season is about player development into the proper playing positions for the official season which begins in early spring. Keep swinging for the fence.  Go Jags!
