At 4:30 p.m. yesterday, the JV boys’ basketball team got things underway in what would be a spectacular night for PPCHS. Cross-town rivals in Flanagan High School was determined to spoil the Jags big basketball night. In the end, sophomores Tyler Barney and Sebastian Perrault combined for 42 points to lead the Jags in a convincing victory to continue their sound season.

Sophomore Jamar Alexis said, “We began slow and sloppy. It seemed like our heads weren’t in the game. It changed after we discussed some things in a timeout. We got our offense going and our defensive press forced a lot of turnovers. When we played our game, they couldn’t beat us.”

Following the JV boys’ nail-biting victory, the girls’ varsity team took the court looking to get back on track after a close loss to Everglades on Monday night. Freshman Cristine Alayon led the team with 15 points as Alayon continued to make some noise behind the three-point line. The Lady Jags unfortunately weren’t able to hang around in the second half due to double-digit turnover against Flanagan’s press. For now, the girls’ team will keep working hard with their new coach and are ready to establish a strong unit.

Speaking of strong units, the boys’ varsity basketball team, PCB, took down the Flanagan Falcons 69-53. Junior Haanif Cheatham scored a game-high 35 points while collecting 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Juniors Marcel Denbow and Dimitri Harper contributed offensively and affectively established a strong backcourt. Senior Peter Buckley continued to do his thing on the boards and showing off his outstanding alley-oop dunks. PCB astonished both the Charter fans and Flanagan fans where it came to the point that the game was sold out before the referee did the jump ball. Stay tuned to this team PPCHS, they are a force to be reckoned with.

All three PPCHS basketball teams will travel on the road tomorrow to take on Cardinal Gibbons. Good luck Jags and continue to make your fans proud!
